Deployment 1 - starting on 02/15/2015, status data included leak detects in the buoy well and 03/27/2015 status data indicated a drop in battery voltage and loss of wind turbine input. This indicates catastrophic damage to the surface buoy. Upon recovery, the buoy was found to be primarily intact, but showed damage to the tower:

Missing components:
- Some METBK modules
- Port telemetry set (including one MELO beacon)
- FDCHP
- Port wind turbine missing one blade and a portion of another (out of a total of three blades)
- Both vane PV panels
- Two port buoy vent valves

Ice build-up on the tower in early March is speculated to be the cause for much of the damage.

Deployment 2 - a period of violent weather caused power outages on multiple GI01SUMO instruments. Instruments are not sending data by telemetry and failure is expected. Note that functional instruments may continue to collect data using internal battery power and storage cards.
UPDATE: Upon recovery, water was found inside the buoy well. Thirteen gallons of water were siphoned out of the well; the remaining volume of water is unknown.

There is evidence of ice build-up on the surface buoy tower during two recent storms. The METBK instruments stopped working briefly during cold stormy weather on 12/27/2016, and the buoy may have temporarily laid over. A second storm event on 1/5/2017 caused some gaps in data from GI01SUMO-SBD12-06-METBKA000. One of the wind turbines is not producing any power, which may be an indication that it is iced over.

UPDATE 1/8/2017: Both wind turbines are disabled and may be iced over.

UPDATE 1/11/2017: The battery charge state has been declining steadily and power-reduction has been implemented. DCL12 and DCL16 have been shut off and the telemetry schedule has been reduced. Battery-powered instruments will continue to collect data.

UPDATE 1/15/2017: All DCLs have been shut down to conserve power. Battery-powered instruments will continue to collect data.

UPDATE 4/7/2017: With increasing daylight at this location, there is now sufficient power available from PV panels to re-establish limited high-bandwidth telemetry and data transmission. Instruments on DCL11 are sending data to shore. The backlog of data stored on instruments with batteries will slowly backfill over time.

As of 2017-01-15, all DCLs were shut down and the telemetry schedule was reduced to conserve power. Battery-powered instruments should continue to collect data. UPDATE 2017-04-07: With increasing daylight at this location, sufficient power was generated by solar panels to re-establish limited high-bandwidth telemetry and data transmission. UPDATE: at recovery, wind turbines were missing their hubs and blades, and one solar panel was missing.

Deployment 4: at 10:03 UTC on 12 October 2017 the Irminger Sea Surface Mooring stopped all communications. At recovery, the surface buoy was missing. The subsurface portion of the mooring had fallen to the seafloor and was recovered. CTDMOs, CTDBP-F, DOSTA, and ADCP instrumentation were full ocean depth rated and survived, although any recovered data available after 2017-10-12T10:03:00 are suspect. All other instrumentation imploded or flooded. The cause for the loss of the buoy is inconclusive.
